Carter brothers spur YMCA donation
Former NFL star Cris Carter and his brother John are the primary catalysts behind a recent $19,000 donation to the Henry County YMCA.
Cris Carter, an eight-time Pro Bowl wide receiver over 16 seasons with the Eagles, Vikings and Dolphins, and his brother, John, accounted for $10,000 of the money through their Carter Brothers Charities. The rest of the donation came as part of the JCPenney Afterschool Fund. The 10-day national campaign asked store customers to round up their purchases to the nearest whole dollar, with the difference benefiting the nonprofit organization’s after-school programs.
“We kind of grew up in the YMCA,” said John Carter, a Stockbridge resident and YMCA board member originally from Middletown, Ohio. “For us, it was very easy when we heard what they wanted at the YMCA. It made a lot of sense to us to see what we could do to be a part of it.”
A NFL Hall of Fame finalist this year, Cris Carter retired from the league in 2002 and still ranks second in league annals in total receptions (1,101) and receiving touchdowns (130).
